In this engaging three-part workshop series, participants will delve into the art of papermaking while exploring various techniques incorporating pigments, different fibers, and stencils into their creations. Each session will build upon the last, offering a comprehensive journey into the world of handmade paper.

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of papermaking. We will explore different types of paper fibers such as cotton, abaca, and recycled materials. The session will cover pulp preparation, sheet forming, and basic drying techniques. Each participant will create their own sheets of handmade paper to be used in subsequent sessions.

Building upon the skills learned in the first session, participants will discover how to introduce color into their paper creations. We will experiment with pigments, exploring techniques to achieve vibrant or subtle hues. Participants will learn to blend pigments into their paper pulp and create uniquely colored sheets. We will discuss color theory and how to achieve desired visual effects.

In the final session, participants will explore the art of image-making using stencils.  Participants will learn how to incorporate stencils into their papermaking process to create intricate designs and patterns. We will also discuss layering techniques and how to achieve depth and complexity in paper-based artworks.

By the end of this workshop series, participants will have gained hands-on experience in papermaking techniques using different fibers and pigments. They will also have learned how to incorporate stencils to create visually captivating images within their handmade paper artworks.

This workshop series is designed to inspire creativity and provide participants with the skills and confidence to continue exploring the art of papermaking beyond the classroom setting.

Hope to see you in class!
